Dime is all about simple one-off microdonations. Choose between £0.50, £1 & £2 – you don’t need to give much to have a real impact.
Dime only partners with organisations offering a positive product or service to individuals genuinely in need, removing the worry of where your money may end up. We work with established charities, homeless shelters and volunteer groups.
We’ll let you know when and where your donation is redeemed – see the difference you’ve made and feel good for doing good.
1
Look out for a donation code as you pass them in the street – it’ll be short and personal (e.g. ‘BOB22’) and typically written on a sign or a badge.
2
Give swiftly and securely using your phone’s Apple Pay or Google Pay functionality, safe in the knowledge that whatever you give can only be used at approved places.
3
Savour that sweet feeling of having helped someone in need. You'll also get a notification when your donation is used so you can see precisely how you’ve made a difference.
Individuals are onboarded through the partner organisations that Dime works with.
These organisations are established charities, shelters and volunteer groups working in the homelessness space and already have a trusted relationship with the people we want to help.
Through our partner platform, these organisations upload a name and photo for the individual – once successfully added, a donation code for that person is supplied along with materials to help encourage donations from the public (e.g. signs/badges with the person’s donation code on).
Donations can be redeemed by the individual at any one of our partner organisations, however in most cases it will be at the organisation that onboarded them.
Through a separate platform, partner organisations are able to check an individual’s donation balance and approve them for the transaction or assistance they require (e.g. purchasing items, help with accommodation or putting money towards a savings goal).
Our goal is for donations to be put towards any product or service that helps with the person’s rehabilitation or development.
In many instances, the most productive use of funds is a personal savings pot (with a case worker assigned to assist in utilising funds) however donations can also be used for food, clothing, accommodation, documentation applications and vocational training.
By searching a person’s donation code in the app, selecting an amount on their donation page and then using your phone’s Apple Pay or Google Pay functionality to complete the transaction.
Keep an eye out for a person’s donation code when you’re out and about – they’ll usually have it written on a sign or a badge, or they can tell it to you in conversation.
Donations can only be redeemed at approved organisations integrated with our platform, and Dime only partners with organisations offering a positive product or service to the homeless.
When a redemption transaction is approved, our system checks the most recent users who donated to that individual and notifies them of the time and place the donation has been used.
Yes, and rightly so, however we believe an opportunity is being missed by not having a productive alternative for direct cash giving.
Many people want to help in the moment but giving spare change to those on the street can be more detrimental than helpful. Our goal is not to replace the important structural aid already being delivered by great charities and shelters, and we don't want to position Dime as a silver bullet that will single-handedly solve the incredibly complex issue of homelessness. However, we do believe we can better utilise existing gestures of generosity, as well as tap into additional streams of support – unifying and supercharging these small actions so they can have a meaningful, lasting impact.
